Sustainability
Every year our Sustainability Secs have worked hard to ensure we are as eco friendly as we can be! They've also done a great job encouraging our members and other societies to make a few changes here and there to reduce waste and look after our environment!
What we've done...
Online Campaigns
We set challenges for our members such as eating plant-based meals, swapping single-use water bottles for reusable ones, bringing a reusable coffee cup to campus, and encouraging them to share their plant-based meals on our Instagram.
Climate Action Training Presentation
For all the sports committee members. This involved highlighting the correlation between sports and their climate impact, and explaining opportunities to minimise these impacts by focusing on transportation, food and events, and consumption and stash.
Carbon Offsetting Project
We worked on offsetting our club’s carbon emissions that were emitted during all the away games during the season. We calculated the amount of CO2 emitted for our BUCS Football, BUCS Futsal and Sunday League teams. The last social of the term we raised the money needed to offset the CO2 emissions for all 6 teams. All donations went towards community projects including the Zambia Western Province Safe Water Project, African Biomass Energy Conservation, Poa Malawi Biomass Conservation, Up Energy Improved Cookstoves Programme Uganda, and Eritrea Community Boreholes Project.
